Primary schools in and around Watford have begun to reopen their doors to pupils.

Schools were told to partially close at the end of March. They could however remain open for the children of key workers and vulnerable people during the height of the lockdown.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced last month that from June 1, primary schools could begin a phased reopening, with Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 pupils being the first to return.

According to Hertfordshire County Council, more than 90 percent of primary schools in the county have reopened.

Below, we list all the schools that we know have reopened:

  • St John's Infant School - Reception only
  • Ascot Road Community Free School - Reception and Year 1 children only
  • Central Primary School - Year 6 only
  • Little Green Junior School - Year 6 only
  • Central Primary School - Year 6 only. Reception to return on June 9
  • Kingsway School - Reception, Year 1 and Year 6
  • The Grove Academy ​- Reception, Year 1 and Year 6
  • St Mary's Church of England Primary School - Reception, Year 1 and Year 6
  • Holywell Primary School - Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6
  • Alban Wood Primary School and Nursery - Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6
  • Oxhey Wood Primary School - Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6
  • Warren Dell Primary School - Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6
  • The Orchard Primary School - Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6
  • St Pauls C of E VA Primary School & Nursery - Reception, Year 1 and Year 6​
  • Yorke Mead School in Croxley Green - Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6
  • St Joseph's Catholic Primary School

Schools that will be opening their doors later in June include:

  • Laurance Haines, Cherry Tree, and Beechfield Primary School - Year 6 pupils return on Monday (June 8); Year 1 pupils may return on June 15; Reception pupils return on June 22; Nursery return on June 29.
