A man who changed the number plates of a car involved in a murder has been jailed for perverting the course of justice.

Jack Bush, 24, of Oakdale Road, Leytonstone, switched the plates on a Toyota Prius which had been driven into Constantin Sin in High Road, Leytonstone, on May 5 2019.

Mr Sin died from his injuries after he was hit by the Toyota driven by Riyaz Adam at around 12.40am.

During a trial for Bush, the Old Bailey heard he had been involved in a dispute with Mr Sin shortly before his death.

Adam, also of Leytonstone, was friends with Bush and after he saw a fight, he deliberately drove his car at Mr Sin and another man, who was seriously injured.

Bush and Adam fled the scene.

The Toyota was found dumped in a secluded area near Snaresbrook.

When police found it, the registration plates had been replaced.

Forensic examinations were carried out and Bush’s DNA was found on one of the registration plates that had been removed and placed in the boot of the car.

CCTV recovered from the scene also placed Bush and Adam at the location.

Bush handed himself into police on May 15 2019, but during an interview told detectives he was asleep at home during the time the plates were changed.

Bush initially denied perverting the course of justice but changed his plea today (Thursday) during a trial at the Old Bailey.

He has been jailed for six-and-a-half years and disqualified from driving for four-and-a-half years.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wrigley, said: "Bush did everything he could to cover up the fact he played a role in this awful incident in a pathetic attempt to avoid justice.

"Constantin was the victim of a callous and frighteningly swift course of actions, for which he paid the ultimate price. He had multiple injuries which were just not survivable."

Adam has been convicted of manslaughter at a previous trial.
