A POLICE officer has told how she rescued a woman who had fallen into a river and got stuck in the mud.

PCSO Ali Blood of Abingdon was out on cycle patrol yesterday when she spotted a woman who had fallen into the water.

She found the woman submerged up to her waist in the River Ock in Abingdon and could not get out.

The trapped woman had been unable to get anyone's attention and appeared to be suffering with hyperthermia and a suspected break.

Further officers responded to support Ms Blood, who ditched her boots and waded in to be with the woman.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Abingdon managed to get the woman out of the water and South Central Ambulance Service also attended the scene and gave her medical attention.

The woman will make a full recovery.

Ms Blood said she was very appreciative of the fireman’s lift to get herself back onto the bank which was steep.

In a post on TVP South Oxon and Vale of White Horse Facebook page, Abingdon police added: "She is also wondering why today of all days she had run out of black socks and wore sparkling green ones."
