CHILDREN in Witney had lessons with a twist when former Prime Minister David Cameron visited their school.

Mr Cameron, who was a Witney MP at the time in 2009, visited Combe Primary School to celebrate the opening of new £1.4m classrooms.

Headteacher Wendy Foster said: "David Cameron was fantastic, absolutely uplifting and inspiring. He looked around the school and spoke to children and staff.

"It went really well and was a really positive day."

The new facilities included two new classrooms, a school hall for PE, drama and assemblies, and an outdoor learning area.

Mrs Foster said: "It has transformed everything.

"The school has never had a place where the children could sit down at a table and eat, a place for quiet and a place for wet play."

The new building included a heat pump to supply eco-friendly heating, along with wind-catchers for natural ventilation in the hall.

There were also solar cells on the roof.

The school is classed by Ofsted as an outstanding school and was placed joint top of the previous year's national primary league tables.
