A driver has been taken to hospital following a crash on a motorway this morning.
Hertfordshire Constabulary says it was called shortly before 6.40am today (September 4) following a collision on the M1.
It was reported that a car and a van had crashed between junctions 8 and 9 northbound.
Officers attended the scene - but there was no van when they arrived.
A picture tweeted by BCH Road policing shows a car left severely damaged in the middle of the road.

The driver of the car has been taken to hospital as a precaution.
Queues tailed back to junction 6 on the motorway as the incident was dealt with, with two lanes having been closed.
Recovery was called for the vehicle and the carriageway was clear by 8.30am.
