Hertfordshire's chief fire officer has urged people to follow Covid rules this weekend to "help turn the roadmap schedule into reality".

Darryl Keen also thanked the majority of people for playing their part and reiterated that although the 'stay at home' message has ended people are still being asked to maintain social distancing as much as possible.

He added: “Knowing that one in three people with COVID-19 has no obvious symptoms, we must act responsibly and keep up with social distancing, good hand washing and good hygiene as these are the best preventative measures."

Herts Police has confirmed patrols will be upped over the Easter weekend and warned enforcement action will be used as a last resort.

Chief Superintendent Matt Nicholls also thanked "the vast majority" of people who are complying with the latest rules after lockdown began to ease this week.

But he added: “Our officers will be carrying out additional patrols across the county over the long weekend, engaging, explaining and encouraging everyone to do the right thing. Enforcement action remains our last resort.”

The warning comes as leisure spots begin to reopen with some implementing new rules to minimise congestion.

Among them is Cassiobury Park's paddling pools - which Watford Borough Council has reopened with a maximum of 100 people allowed at a time.
