An 11-year-old boy was left devastated after his new bike was stolen the day after his birthday in St Albans.

Thankfully PCs Lee Hammond (pictured) and John Endersby managed to reunite him with his grey Ridgeback bike on Sunday April 25.

The boy had securely locked it up at The Abbey CE VA primary school, in Grove Road, on Monday April 19.

Following enquiries, the bike was subsequently found in the back garden of an address in the city centre.

PC Hammond said: “We found the bike after extensive CCTV enquiries at the school and our investigations are continuing to trace the person responsible for taking it.

"The boy was over the moon to get his bike back.”

If you have any information about the theft, you can report it online at herts.police.uk/report, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat at herts.police.uk/contact or call the non-emergency number 101.
