A driver has been seriously injured in a crash between two cars in Wheathampstead.
Hertfordshire Constabulary says officers were rushed to the crash in Coleman Green Lane around 6.05am on Friday morning.
Two vehicles were involved – a blue Hyundai Terracan and a red Mazda Sport.
Paramedics were called as well as the fire and rescue service due to smoke seen coming from one of the vehicles.
Both drivers were taken to hospital, one as a precaution and one seriously injured, police said.

Emergency services are still at the scene.
Road closures have been put in place and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
