Police cadets came together to celebrate their achievements at their annual awards ceremony.
The event took place at Harpenden Fire Station on Tuesday evening (September 21) and was hosted by the group’s chair, Inspector Steve Alison.
As well as the members of the St Albans and Harpenden Volunteer Police Cadet group, special guests included High Sheriff of Hertfordshire Lionel Wallace, local Chief Inspector Mike Todd and St Albans Fire Station Commander Lee Slipanczewski.
The ceremony started with a formal parade, followed by a presentation showcasing the events and programmes the cadets have been involved with over the last two years.
The awards were then formally presented, along with certificates for those cadets who had been promoted to higher ranks.
Inspector Steve Alison, chair of St Albans and Harpenden Volunteer Police Cadets, said: “After having to postpone the event in 2020, I’m so pleased that we were finally able to come together to celebrate the group’s achievements, over what has been a challenging couple of years.
“I’m extremely proud of all our members and the work they do for their local community, they really are a credit to the constabulary.
"I’d like to once again congratulate all the winners and thank all those who attended for their support on the evening."
The award winners were:
· Cadet of the Year Award – Senior Cadet Gabriella Senner
· Alban Award for Outstanding Achievement Award – Cadet Henry Oldroyd
· John Embley Award for Outstanding Volunteer Contribution – Cadet Alice Raraty
· Cadets Cadet of the Year Award – Senior Cadet Ciara Quinn
· New Cadet of the Year Award – Cadet Jamie Escuder
St Albans Chief Inspector Mike Todd said: “By participating positively in our community, our cadets help to make society a better place, improving the environment we live in.
“I am immensely proud of our cadets, they are an inspiration to other young people.”
Police cadets are young members of the community, aged 13 to 18, who are involved in numerous policing activities and events.
They learn about procedures and the law as well as working alongside local officers in community events, engaging with members of the public and educating them on crime prevention.
