A motorist was rushed to hospital in a serious condition after a crash near Harpenden during the early hours.
Emergency services were called at 3.10am this morning (Tuesday) to reports that a vehicle had collided with a lamppost in Redbourn Lane.
The driver was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
A police spokesperson said: "It was reported that, for reasons unknown, a vehicle had collided with a lamppost.
"The driver was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
"Road closures remain in place at this time while investigations continue at the scene."
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
