A dual carriageway has reopened following a serious collision involving a motorcyclist.

Emergency services were called to the A405 in Bricket Wood shortly after 8am (April 25).

Police say a motorbike and a van crashed and the road was shut.

The severity of injuries sustained in the collision are unknown at this time but residents in Bricket Wood reported seeing an air ambulance land in the area.

A Hertfordshire Constabulary spokesperson said at around 9.30am: "Officers are currently on scene alongside the ambulance service and road closures have been put in place.

"Motorists are asked to please avoid the area at this time."

National Highways added: "The A405 is closed southbound between the M25 and the M1 due to a serious collision. Emergency services are on scene. Traffic is being diverted via local routes."

However, at around 10.45am, the A405 reopened, National Highways said.

The A405 was shut between the junctions of the M25 and M1 in the direction of Garston and Watford.

Anyone wanting to get onto the M1 at junction 6 from the direction of St Albans, as well as continue on the A405 towards Watford, was affected.

The incident caused major traffic disruption in both directions on the A405 between Bricket Wood and Chiswell Green during this morning's rush hour.

This is believed to be due to the collision, as well as roadworks in Watford Road near the Shell garage in Chiswell Green.

The slip roads at junction 21A for the M25 were also slower than usual due to the queues on the A405.
