The A1 in Borehamwood has reopened after a crash earlier this afternoon (June 25).

Emergency services were at the scene of a collision on the southbound carriageway just after the Rowley Lane exit.

Five vehicles were involved and multiple ambulances, fire engines, and police vehicles were in attendance from just after 12.45pm.

Police say two people were trapped inside their cars and firefighters were there with cutting equipment.

Four people have been reported injured but no one is believed to be in a life threatening condition.

The whole southbound carriageway was shut by police and traffic officers but one lane of three reopened shortly after 3pm, National Highways said.

Two lanes remain closed as of 3.50pm for recovery and to clear up the scene.

As a result there are still delays on the A1 southbound approaching where the crash happened.

National Highways says to expect delays of around 15 minutes.

Earlier, police warned people in a tweet to avoid the area.

The incident caused heavier traffic than usual in Borehamwood, Elstree, Arkley, and Chipping Barnet as drivers sought to find alternative routes.
