THE severe water shortage affecting large parts of St Albans this morning has disrupted five schools in the district.
Three primary schools including Camp School in Camp Road, Bernards Heath Junior School in Watson Road and Cunningham Hill school in Cell Barnes Lane have been closed for the day because of a burst water pipe at the North Orbital Commercial Park in Napsbury Lane.
Most of postcodes AL1, AL2, AL3 and AL4 are experiencing no water or severe loss of pressure.
Water gushed into the industrial estate at around 6am this morning after a mains pipe burst.
The flood has caused major disruption to nearby businesses who are without water.
Meanwhile St Albans Girls' in Sandridgebury Lane is relying on left over water supplies in their tank, which should last them until lunchtime. Pupils may be sent home from school if the water runs out during the day.
Beaumont School in Cell Barnes Lane is also affected.
