Plans have been submitted for Specsavers to fill an empty High Street unit in Harpenden.

The application, submitted to St Albans City & District Council's planning committee, would see the removal of part of the existing shopfront at 34 High Street and the installation of a new door and shopfront windows.

Signage, including a projecting sign and a fascia sign, is also included within the plans.

The unit's door will be widened to allow for wheelchair access, while the store will be refurbished to fit Specsavers' brand.

A planning statement included within the application reads: "Harpenden is a small town surrounded by a green belt.

"Due to this, careful thought and consideration has been given to the design.

No objections or comments have yet been made, with 34 High Street currently sitting vacant between The Cutting Room boutique and Hampton's estate agents.

Residents have until January 13 to comment or object to the application, which can be viewed by using reference 5/2023/2234 on the St Albans City & District Council planning portal.
