GREEN candidate Rupert Read will be campaigning in St Albans later this month as part of his party's drive to enter the European Parliament.

Elections for the parliament will be held across the East of England constituency, including Hertfordshire, on June 4.

With the seven MEPs to be elected by proportional representation, Greens are hoping to seize the seat currently occupied by Jeremy Titford of the United Kingdom Independence Party.

Mr Titford has announced he will not be standing, and many political commentators believe his party is in decline.

Mr Read will be in St Albans city centre on Monday, June 19.
