WHO will be the successor to the Thai Square in the Restaurant and Cafe category of this year's Review Retailer of the Year Awards?

The oriental food served up in the historic George Street building struck a chord with our mystery diner's tastebuds as last year it was voted the best of 22 nominated eating houses, beating shortlisted Lussman's in Waxhouse Gate and Saba in Heritage Close.

At the awards evening, held only six months after the restaurant opened in the former Tudor Tavern, owner Haim Danous said: ""It's very difficult to settle down in that time - usually it takes about six months to a year to get it right.

"I'm very thankful to the St Albans community for having us and hopefully we will be even better next year.

"Unfortunately a lot of my staff are not fluent in English, but this award will bring us closer to the community and we can give them some enjoyment of Thai hospitality."

With its thriving night-time economy, St Albans is full of gastronomic establishments to tempt the discerning diner, so you can be sure this accolade will indicate somewhere truly special.

The race for the overall Retailer of the Year title is gathering intensity, with well over 100 nominations so far. Winners will be declared in six categories, specialist shops, market traders, restaurants and cafes, fashion and accessories, and food and drink retailers.

To nominate a retailer in any of our six categories, you can: fill in the form in this week’s Review and send it to the specified address; text the name of the trader you want to nominate by texting the word ‘retailer’ followed by the name and address of the business to 80360. Texts cost 25 pence.
