ST MICHAEL'S CHURCH in St Albans has been inundated with financial support thanks to the Review.
Our Raise the Roof appeal was launched last week and the total has already reach the £5,000 mark.
We want to help the historic church recover from thousands of pounds' worth of damage caused by lead thieves who stole the roof. As a result of our appeal, launched last Tuesday, donations have been pouring in at the vicarage.
The total includes a cheque sent directly to the Review's newsdesk this morning for £500.
Vicar the Reverend Brett Gray told the Review today the fundraising total was approximately £4,600. As a result the £500 cheque has taken the amount raised so far to about £5,100.
The Rev Gray said the church has a number of concerts in the pipeline and thanked the Review and members of the public for their help.
A temporary felt roof has been fitted at the St Michael's Street church which enabled services at the weekend to resume as normal.
On Friday the Rev Gray said: "People have been great to us. Everyone is being so generous.
“Many of them have read about us in your paper and it seems to have had a big effect so we are really greatful for the Review's help.”
