THE Review's Raise the Roof appeal in aid of St Michael's Church has reached £26,000.

We stepped in to help the devastated church more than a month ago after vandals ripped lead off the roof.

The vicar Rt Reverend Brett Gray was faced with thousands of pounds worth of damage following the mindless act of vandalism.

Since our appeal was launched the community has united in supporting the St Albans church inundating the vicarage with donations.

We revealed last week how a more than generous mystery resident added £10,000 to the fund.

A number of fundraising events have been organised by the vicar and his wife Alison Gray including a 'nearly new' sale at the St Michael's school hall which will be held between 10am and noon on Saturday, November 14.
