THE Harpenden woman badly hurt when hit by a car on Tuesday evening has been named as Janet Richard, the Review can reveal.

Michael Flowers of Boca Raton, Florida, USA told the Review: "The accident victim is a great friend of mine, Janet Richard, and I am still in shock regarding these turn of events.

"Her husband has been keeping me up to date with brief emails regarding Janet's condition but your articles have been able to provide me with more details of the situation

"Thanks for your coverage and I hope that you will continue to keep your readers, including myself, updated on this situation.

"Janet has such a strong will - I'm hopeful and looking forward to a full recovery with the help of the NHS."

Mrs Richard, who was hit by a Peugeot 307 at 7.25pm at the junction of Leyton Road and St Albans Road, was described as "poorly - worse than serious" on Wednesday lunchtime, but improved yesterday and is now stable in Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

Reader Jo Bishop told the Review: "I was in Leyton Road just after the accident on Tuesday evening collecting my daughter from the British Legion.

"Seeing the ambulance and traffic police I knew that something terrible had happened.

"We later went to drop off DVDs at Blockbuster and the ambulance roared past us.

"My daughter and I are both Christians and said a prayer for the victim, asking for life and protection.

"For some reason I haven’t been able to get the situation out of my mind - I can't really explain it but I felt a prompting to continue prayer for this person."
