BATFORD Memorial Hall looks set to get a makeover thanks to a generous £3,000 cash donation from Hertfordshire County Council.

Bernard Lloyd, who represents Harpenden North East, contributed the cash from a locality budget to the trustees to go towards the costs involved in replacing the windows and removing asbestos from the building in Tallents Crescent, Harpenden.

A total of £10,000 is available to each of the 77 members of Hertfordshire County Council to spend on worthwhile community projects in their area.

Councillor Lloyd said: “The Hall is the focal point for a whole range of activities and functions for the local community, including weddings and children’s parties, and it is important that it is kept in good order for the benefit of local people.

“Replacing the windows will make the hall more energy-efficient and warmer in the winter, and it was also felt that this would be a good time to remove the asbestos too: this can of course be an expensive operation, so I am very happy to be able to help out with funding through my locality budget.”
