A WOMAN suffered scars to her face after being attacked by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier in Hatfield earlier this month, police have revealed.

Police say the attack occurred at about 7.45pm on Tuesday, August 3, in Cherry Way Park, close to Acacia Street.

The woman, who is 40 and from Hatfield, was walking her dog in the park when she saw a dog running towards them.

The dog began attacking her dog so she pulled it off, but the dog then launched an attack on her and bit her on the face and neck several times. Her dog suffered injuries to its ear.

A man then jogged over to the dog and pulled it away from the woman and continued to drag it away from the area.

The dog was described as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, possibly crossed with a pit bull. It was the size of a Labrador. It was described as being of mixed colour - tan, brown, black and grey - with a white chest.

The man who led the dog away is described as a white, 6ft tall, with a slim build and aged in his mid 20s to early 30s.

He had dark brown, flat, short, hair and was wearing a black t-shirt and jeans. He was with two other white men.

PC Kelly Bailey said: “The woman suffered significant injuries to her face and neck which will leave her with scarring and possibly requiring surgery.

“Our investigations are ongoing to determine who the owner of this dog is and I would appeal to anyone who knows who he may be, or who may recognise the dog, to contact me as soon as possible via the non-emergency number on 0845 33 00 222.”
