POLICE have appealed for information into two “despicable” mobility scooter thefts in Welwyn village.

Between midnight and 6.30am on Friday, December 3, a mobility scooter was stolen from outside a house in Tudor Road. The keys were in the ignition.

Also between 10pm on Thursday, November 25, and 9.10am on Friday, November 26, a mobility scooter was stolen from the front garden of an address in Wingate Gardens. The keys were again left in the ignition.

PCSO Andrea Dutson from the Welwyn Garden City neighbourhood team said: “This is a despicable crime. These people are reliant on their mobility scooters to get out and about and the theft has left them immobile.

“It’s possible it may have been done as a prank. We would like to hear from anyone with any information about the thefts.”

She added: “We’d encourage mobility scooter owners not to leave the keys in the ignition when they are unattended, even if it is only for a few minutes.”

Scooters can be security marked for free by calling PCSO Dutson on 01707 638012 or email andrea.dutson@herts.pnn.police.uk Anyone with information on the thefts can call 0845 330 0222.
