PUPILS at a Harpenden school were given the task of cracking an "unsolvable" maths problem.
The year 5 class at Grove Junior School took part in a Funky Maths workshop and were challenged to build three houses and connect gas, electricity and water supply – but without the pipes crossing each other.
All 12 pupils put their heads together, and used their creativity, to solve the problem.
Neil Mawdsley, Funky Maths workshop leader, said: “The pupils were incredibly insightful and were brilliant at thinking outside the box.”
Funky Maths is a workshop which uses large plastic tubes, shapes and connectors that enables pupils to construct large two and three dimensional geometric shapes. Nina Lorenzini, numeracy team leader at Grove Junior, added: “The Funky Maths workshop led by Scratch Learning was outstanding.
“The pupils really engaged with the fun but challenging maths problem solving activities. The materials used generated a real buzz and brought out the creative and imaginative side of our pupils."
