A SCOUT hut in St Albans will be spruced up with a grant from a county councillor.
Councillor Geoff Churchard, who represents Sandridge, has allocated £1,400 from his locality budget towards the refurbishment of the 1st Sandridge Scout and Guide group's headquarters.
The hut will have new windows and cladding, with insulation also being installed.
Councillor Churchard said: "I'm delighted to be helping to fund these refurbishments, using part of my locality budget to support a key community resource such as this.
"The Scout movement is a great activity for young people, teaching long term values and skills.
“The building is in need of some refurbishment due to the long-term effects of weather over the past 45 years.
"This also gives an opportunity to add further insulation and to improve the energy efficiency and fuel costs associated with the building. With these improvements the building can continue to be used for years to come.”
The total cost of the works is expected to be about £8,000, with the remaining amount already raised through various activities such as barbecues, quiz nights, hikes and parties.
