Jamie Oliver dropped by his new restaurant in St Albans on Monday to see how his staff were getting on and check everything was fine ahead of the opening.

The first Jamie's Italian in Hertfordshire is due to open its doors on Sunday. It is based in the former Bell pub in Chequer Street.

The TV chef chatted to staff who have undergone training in preparation for the opening.

Colette Warren, 21, one of the maitre d's at the restaurant, said: "He was really lovely, really funny and genuine.

"He told us about how he started out in his parent's pub kitchen and went from there. He spent ages looking round the restaurant and furnishings to see if it was all alright."
