A group of scouts from Harpenden have raised almost £400 for charity by helping shoppers pack their bags at a local supermarket.

24 scouts from the 3rd Harpenden troop collected £396 for Motec, a charity dedicated to improving educational, training and healthcase services in Africa, by bag packing in Sainsburys.

Trevor Lilley, the group’s scout leader, said: “There were some fabulous people. It was really great for them to give so generously.

“It was a great activity for getting involved in the community and we didn’t have to worry about the weather.”

Paul Ofori-Atta, a representative from the Hemel Hempstead based charity, visited the scout group on April 30 to thank the youngsters for their donation, and to explain how their money will be used.

Mr Lilley added: “The scouts really loved it – they were very impressed.
