Disabled people living in Hertfordshire and their carers are being encouraged to take more control of the support they receive.

The county council has joined forces with the NHS and Watford Mencap to organise the My Life My Choices event, which will give residents the opportunity to learn more about plans to create a more personalised approach to support.

Colette Wyatt-Lowe, cabinet member for health and adult care at the council, said: "This is a great opportunity for people to find out about how the care they receive can be more personalised. For example, they could take advantage of having direct payments instead of using traditional services.

"This would offer them more control in designing a support plan that suits them and gives them as much independence as possible."

The information event will be held at the Stanborough Centre in St Albans Road between 10am and 2pm on Monday, May 28.
