A WOMAN from St Albans has been crowned the queen of her community in a competition which searched for the best party thrower in the UK.

Cathy Williams-Gunn scooped the top title in the Schweppes Social Monarch competition, being recognised as someone who loves to entertain and plans the best parties.

Yesterday the mum-of-three got residents in her street, Waverley Road, into the party spirit, with a Diamond Jubilee street party.

With a BBQ, royal crafts, British themed baking competition , folk dancing, an egg and spoon race and much more, there was plenty for the whole street to enjoy.

And no Jubilee party is complete with a Queen for the day and for Cathy's party one of the oldest lady's on the street wore her crown in pride.

Cathy said: "Everyone on the street is very social, everyone wants to get involved and is in the party spirit."

She said she was delighted to be chosen winner, thanks to her husband who nominated her.
