PLANS to build a development of 62 homes on the Green Belt in Colney Heath have been refused by St Albans District Council.

An application was submitted by the owners of Barley Mow public house, in Barley Mow Lane, Tyttenhanger, for outline planning permission.

Objections were raised by neighbours over the loss of Green Belt land, despite a large chunk of the development being a brownfield site.

At a planning referrals committee meeting yesterday evening permission was refused because of the location on the Green Belt.

Councillors on the panel also objected because the proposed type and number of homes would be out of keeping with the character and appearance of the rural setting of the site and surrounding area.

Concerns about Barley Mow Lane being a single track lane were also raised.
