A planning proposal for a care village on a dilapidated Green Belt site in Bricket Wood has been discussed by the parish council.

Councillors from St Stephen Parish Council met representatives from Greenbell Developers on Friday to discuss the planning application that was submitted at the beginning of the month.

The company has applied to build affordable homes where elderly and disabled residents can pick and chose services they need assistance with, such as housework and cooking, in-between Lye Lane and the M25.

The proposed plans include a 70-bed care home, 60 two-bed homes, 12 one-bed houses, flats for adults with learning difficulties and 26 two-bedroom dwellings for staff.

The proposed site will also include a swimming pool, tennis courts, a medical centre and allotments.

Bill Pryce, chairman of St Stephen Parish Council, attended the presentation on Friday morning.

He said: "It went very well. The plans look very good.

"The questions that we put to the developers were answered very openly and honestly.

"We have to bear in mind that it is Green Belt. We oppose any development on the Green Belt which is inappropriate."

The parish council now has to wait for the plans to be sent through from the district council, and they will then go in front of the planning committee.

The land received planning permission from the council 16 years ago to be used as a golf course.

However, the work was never completed and the site was left contaminated with imported waste including plastic, timber and metal.

The new proposals were officially submitted at the end of May and they were validated and made public at the beginning of June.

Plans were expected to be put in earlier but consultations on roads and traffic caused a delay.

Paul Brettell, principal officer at the independent building consultancy, said: "We had a very pleasant meeting.

"I was very pleased to have an opportunity to meet the councillors.

"They are obviously looking to understand more about the scheme.

"They are making decisions for the community so it is their job to question and challenge.

"Hopefully we have answered most if not all of their questions."
