St Albans Masters swimmer Craig Kirkland won a gold medal at the National 3k Open Water Masters race in Sheffield.
The event, held at Rother Valley Country Park, saw Kirkland finish first after topping his age group clocking a time of 41.31.
Laura Coombes won a silver medal in windy conditions after posting a time of 47.36, just a few seconds behind first place.
This was the first event of the British Gas ASA Open Water Championships 2013 – a tough race with the best Masters in the country competing against each other.
St Albans Masters swimmers, who train up to four nights a week, also have a good group of swimmers who like open water swimming in a number of lakes within 50 minutes of St Albans.
