Marelie Raath won the Under-14 Road to Wimbledon County Challenge this past weekend.

Marelie, who attends Wheatfields School and trains at Gosling Tennis Club in Welwyn Garden City, won her local club event at St Albans Tennis Club which then made her qualify for the County Finals event at Queenswood School this past weekend.

Different winners from club and schools events came together for the ultimate Finals on Saturday and Sunday.

It was a tough weekend with some tight matches played in very hot conditions. The winners of the event get to play at Wimbledon from 12-18 August in a National event with some international qualifiers also attending.

The players will get the true Wimbledon player treatment, coaching clinics with Tim Henman and meeting top national and international players. The boys’ Under-14 event was also won by a local St Albans boy, Dylan Warren-Cafferty.
