After last week’s 5-4 loss to Northwood, St Albans Ladies bounced back emphatically to thrash Hartham United Ladies 12-1.

Ellie Lovelock and Jessica Caveree took half of the goals for themselves with a hat-trick each, while Kayla Johnson and Grainne Kellet scored two apiece and single strikes from Holly Williams and Lacey Kavanagh-Blake made it 12.

Kellett got the Lady Saints on their way after 22 minutes when she found the bottom right corner after an excellent through ball from Lovelock.

The assist-provider then got her first of the game when Johnson’s delivery into the box was only half cleared and Lovelock lashed home the loose ball, and she added her second with a sublime curling effort from 30 yards that went over the keeper.

Hartham found a momentary route back into the game midway through the half when Janice Allen finished, but three minutes later Kellett finished off an Ellen Slater cut-back before Caveree tapped home a fifth from Kellett’s pass.

Johnson made it six for St Albans shortly after the re-start and three minutes later Lovelock completed her hat-trick from yet another Slater assist.

A spell of Hartham pressure ensued and though a goal would not have changed the outcome, it was a reminder that the Saints needed to keep their concentration.

They recovered brilliantly, and three goals in nine minutes put them even further in the clear.

Williams’ cross went all the way in at the far post to make it eight, Lovelock teed up Cavaree for her second and her side’s ninth, and she then completed a hat-trick with an excellent finish from a tight angle.

There was still time for the Saints to go even further into double figures.

Lovelock, already with three goals to her name, was providing the assists now and set up Johnson’s second at the back post.

The final strike of the afternoon came when Kavanagh-Blake’s effort from outside the box deflected up and looped over the Hartham keeper for her first goal for the club.

Next up for the Lady Saints is a trip to Royston Town Development this weekend, kicking off at 2pm.
