Sheffield Wednesday assistant coach Jamie Smith insists Watford's deciding goal in their 1-0 win over the Owls yesterday should not have stood.
Wednesday were convinced The Hornets' goal should have been ruled out for offside after Linesman Dan Cook raised a flag, but was over-ruled by referee Chris Kavanagh.
Tom Lees diverted a cross by Ismaila Sarr into his own goal in the seventh minute of the match and, after some deliberation between the two officials, the goal was awarded.
However, Smith suggested that Sarr had been offside initially in the build up, as had striker Isaac Success, whose presence in the box persuaded Lees that he had to make contact with the ball.
“The first pass into Sarr looks offside,” Smith said. “And if he (Success) wasn’t there then Leesy wouldn’t have gone for it. If he doesn’t go for the guy taps it in and he’s offside.”
