Xisco Munoz felt Watford produced a performance that their fans could be proud of as they beat Reading 2-0 and tightened their grip on second place.

Two impressive first half strikes from Ismaila Sarr were enough to divide the two teams come full time, extending the gap between the Hornets and third place Brentford to 12 points.

While there were a few nervy moments in the first half, with Reading hitting the post and missing a couple of good chances, Munoz was pleased with the way his team calmed things down and saw the game out in the second.

"I'm very happy today because I think all our fans stay very happy with our players and they are proud about our players,"said Munoz. "The players who stay in the pitch give 100 per cent for the team and it is very nice when we are working like team. I think, always. Everyone is happy with this attitude of them.

"I think we started the game, in the first 15 minutes, with high intensity, in a high level, but sometimes this happens. The most important is that in the second half, we were more safe, they didn't have a chance to score."

Munoz singled out the goalscorer for some individual praise after the match, but also praised Carlos Sanchez who contributed to a much calmer atmosphere after the break.

"I'm very happy with Sarr because I think he today had a very good performance," he said. "I want to say his goal is for all the players because they were in a big level.

St Albans & Harpenden Review:

"I think Carlos was in an excellent level. We understand and we know what is Carlos' experience, we know what is the level of this player. Carlos gave the balance maybe the team needed in this moment."
