St Albans Hockey club enjoyed an outing at the Lee Valley Olympic Park as they sent a team to a National Mixed Competition.

While two defeats on the spin meant a fourth place finish, St Albans still took plenty from the plate competition which saw them compete at one of the nation’s best known venues.

A difficult draw saw St Albans start their campaign with a testing match against Repton on Saturday who had a youthful which condemned them to a punishing 7-1 defeat.

That loss meant the Tangerines dropped into a play-off to determine which side would finish third.

Sunday’s match would be an altogether tighter affair as St Albans took on Lindum.

They went behind early on, but were level inside 21 minutes when Alexis Hamilton scored with a well executed lob.

Lindum were still on top, however, and eased to a 3-1 lead by the interval.

Matt Street’s incisive breakaway and square pass allowed Arman Islam to reduce the arrears, but Lindum would ultimately prove too strong for St Albans.

A frantic period of play saw Lindum add two more goals to take control and move into a 5-2 lead.

Try as they might St Albans couldn’t mount a serious comeback and Lindum held onto their advantage to secure third spot.
