West Ham United defender Winston Reid has signalled his intent to play in his second World Cup finals with New Zealand at the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

The centre-back played for the All Blacks in the most recent World Cup finals in South Africa.

Reid is hoping his form for the Hammers will help lead New Zealand to Brazil, but hopes the fans do not expect the team to play with the same flair as the hosts.

New Zealand have recorded victories over New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Tahiti in their current campaign. They look in good shape to qualify and take on a country from the North, Central America and Caribbean region in a two-legged play off for a spot in the World Cup finals.

Reid told the club website: “We’re pretty much on track right now. We have two games left in our group and, if we’re lucky enough to go through, we have to play the fourth-place team in the CONCACAF qualifiers.

“I think the opportunity is there for us. We certainly fancy ourselves and back ourselves to come through over two legs. We’ll see how it goes but hopefully we can get to Brazil in 2014."

He added: “I hope they don’t expect us to play like Brazil if we get there! It would be an amazing experience to go to Brazil and play in a World Cup there.

“I was fortunate enough to play in one World Cup and there aren’t a lot of people who get the opportunity to do that, so to play in two would be really cool and something I would look forward to.”
