A Watford cyclist is to take part in a 300 mile charity cycle ride this summer.

Trevor Readman, of Southfield Avenue, is set to cycle the distance from Gateshead in Newcastle to Victoria Park in London in 24 hours.

The 39 year old, who has previously taken part in the London to Paris bike ride, was eager to face the new challenge. He said: "The charity ride is something that will push me harder than previous bike rides. I’m looking forward to it".

The event, organised by RideUK24, takes place on August 24 and 25 with 500 people participating.

Mr Readman hopes to raise £500 for his chosen charity, Macmillan Cancer Research. He said: "I had two very close friends who suffered with cancer so the charity is one that is close to my heart.

"The bike ride is for a very good cause. Macmillan looked after one of my friends through his battle and I think now it’s time to give something back to them. It’s nice to be able to help by doing things like this."

An architectural model maker in central London, Mr Readman cycles from Watford to Barbican most days for work. He also regularly spends time cycling in Dunstable and the Chilterns.

In spite of his active lifestyle Mr Readman is still keen to get ahead with his training. He said: "I want to build up to much longer distances over the month or so".

Mr Readman plans to get together with other cyclists participating in the charity ride beforehand. He said: "It will be good to meet and swap stories with others who enjoy cycling as much as I do".
