A new clock tower erected in Palmers Green will be “a landmark of the area for generations to come”.
Business owners spent more than two years organising funding for the three-sided clock and this afternoon (Tuesday) it was carefully lowered into position from a large crane in Palmers Green Triangle.
The new town centrepiece replaces a large tree that had to be removed several years ago after becoming diseased.
Members of the Green Lanes Retailers’ Association (GLRA) first applied for funding from Enfield Council’s residents’ priority fund two and a half years ago.
Chairman Costas Georgiou said he was delighted to finally see the clock in place this afternoon.
He said: “We wanted to put a landmark in Palmers Green because over the years there has been nothing. It will be here for generations and become a point of reference for anyone visiting the area.
“We are very happy – it brings a bit of character to the area and it looks very nice.”
The GLRA will be holding an official unveiling of the clock tower later this month.
