ARMED police were scrambled to a Bradford street after a report of three axe-wielding men 'smashing their way' into a property.

West Yorkshire Police was called to reports of an ongoing disturbance at a property on Back Stone Hall Road, Eccleshill,  at around 12.44pm on Tuesday (May 7).

The masked men smashed their way into the property with what was believed to be an axe, a police spokesperson said.

No injuries have been reported.

Witnesses described hearing a police helicopter circling over the area for more than an hour.

A small number of police vehicles were also parked up on Swain House Road, the T&A understands.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "At 12.44 officers were called to a property at Back Stone Hall Road to reports of an ongoing disturbance.  

"Three masked men smashed their way into the property with what believed was an axe.  

"Armed officers were deployed to the scene.  

"No injuries have been reported and the occupants of the address are being safeguarded.
