Ashley Green sounds like a posh rural chap or chapess. It's actually a sweet village between Bovingdon and Berkhamsted on the Chesham borders. The other day I was delighted to find a Watford Observer on sale at Waitrose in Chesham, so I know the influence of our paper spreads wide. There's one pub nesting in Ashley Green called the Golden Eagle. A new landlady Marion is creating just the right atmosphere and she is aided by music advisor Cathy Gambrell who is putting on a variety of gigs on Sunday nights. I played there last Sunday with my band The Jazz Imposters and it was a great vibe and packed. The band are a serious looking bunch but nevertheless very talented. We have to be, to play Hendrix without a guitar player! Other local heroes include Shane Lamont who runs an Open Mic night once a month - please give the pub a try.
Unfortunately it's a bit sad at the moment with news suppressed from the Pumphouse - it seems nobody wants to say whether the Open House on Tuesdays is going to expire in April and the brilliant idea of a Watford festival called 'Watford Live' seems to have died....please correct me if I am hopefully wrong.
When will the Watford music scene have some good news?
