Funds raised by supporters of Herts Air Ambulance have helped tip the total raised to keep the aircraft flying to over half a million pounds.

It’s less than two years since the Herts Appeal was launched to secure an Air Ambulance for the County, the aircraft flew its first mission on Monday, November 10, and total funds raised now stand at more than £515,000.00.

Rob Forsyth, Trustee of Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust said: “The last couple of months have been remarkable for the Herts Air Ambulance campaign.

"Not only have we launched the first ever helicopter service for the county, but also reached the significant milestone of £500,000 raised. It’s a truly magnificent achievement.

"Of course, times are hard – the credit crunch has had a significant impact on all of our wallets.

"But I hope that the people, businesses and organisations of the county are able to continue to give whatever they can to this most worthwhile service: you never know when you might need the assistance of the Herts Air Ambulance.”

The Air Ambulance has been commissioned for an initial period of one year and is in operation 5 days a week.

It carries an accident and emergency qualified Doctor together with a paramedic and is fully equipped for all the vital Air Ambulance work it undertakes in Hertfordshire in partnership with the East of England Ambulance Service Trust.

Nikki Caborn, Herts Coordinator added: “The aircraft costs in excess of £80,000 per month to run. "Thanks to everyone who has supported us and made the challenge a reality. "However, the hard work has only just begun as maintaining the service will only be possible through the continued generosity of the people and businesses of Hertfordshire.”
