Dozens of St Albans residents have been left without power for more than 24 hours after a burst water main.

The housing estate in Telford Court has been without power since last night and the water is turned off while the fault is investigated.

Staff from the council and the police safer neighbourhoods team are on site and have been liaising with residents and the residents association.

Regular information updates are being delivered to all flats in the block. The Red Cross are on site providing hot drinks and residents have been provided with bottled water. Low level emergency lighting has been provided in the stairwells.

St Albans City and District Council has opened a reception centre at Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre to provide a warm, safe place for residents of Telford Court to go if they wish.

If necessary, overnight accommodation will be provided for Telford Court residents who need it.

Telford Court is a council owned 60 flat tower block off Alma Road.
