Heritage Open Days celebrates England’s fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission. Online are the highlights the local events and attractions that are open as part Heritage Open Days.

The City and District has an abundance of sites and places to visit, with something to interest young, old and the young at heart. Whatever your interest and whether you are a resident or visitor, you will not be disappointed. For example, you could go on one of the guided walks, visit some of our railway heritage, climb to the top of the clock tower, explore some of our churches, enjoy the museums, or take in one of the exhibitions. As a councillor for Redbourn I am particularly looking forward to the Redbourn 900 finale in which there is a series of events which brings a close to a fantastic year of celebrations to mark the 900th anniversary of St Mary’s Church.

Online is all the information you need to make sure you get the most out of the weekend and plan your itinerary. Don’t forget to look out for the St Albans tour guides; you can’t miss them as they will be wearing blue or green badges and will be happy to help you. However do not forget to look at the Heritage Open Days website for events further afield. (www.heritageopendays.org.uk) Wherever I go or whatever I do, I always learn something even when I least expect it. Heritage Open Days is a great opportunity to do just that. The list of attractions and events makes me so proud to represent a district with so much on offer. I hope you will join me in taking full advantage of this excellent weekend.
