As memorial events commemorating 100-years since World War One continue into 2015, the University of Hertfordshire is offering theatre professionals £3,000 to help tell the tale of those left at home during the conflict.

Entitled Sparks Might Fly, the UHArts project offers performers and theatre companies the chance to win funding in order to produce a piece of contemporary theatre based on themes explored in Everyday Lives in War a current academic research project at the Hatfield-based university.

Stuart Mullins, UHArts theatre producer, says: “We want to commission and produce our own unique brand of theatre. In partnership with the history team from the School of Humanities we hope that Sparks Might Fly will inspire artists to make theatre productions that excite not only a student audience but also a wider, younger audience in Hertfordshire and throughout the region.“

The successful company or individual will receive a grant, along with ten days to use a creative space at the university and the support of its theatre producer and operational team.

Applications must be in by Friday, March 6. Details: go.herts.ac.uk/theatrecommission
