Hertfordshire Constabulary is aware that there is concern in Welwyn Garden City about an attempted abduction of a child, and would like to clarify what happened to reassure parents.
Police received a report of what was considered to be an attempted abduction at just after 7pm yesterday (Wednesday, 27 February) on a public footpath near Haymeads.
A 19 month old boy and his mother were approached by an unknown woman who is alleged to have held onto his arm. The mother and son ran off. No one was injured.
Police would also like to reassure people that there have been no reports of similar incidents in the area recently.
Officers are fully investigating the report and would like to speak to anyone who can assist in identifying the woman. She was described as being Polish, in her late 20s, around 5ft 4ins tall and of skinny build. She was said to have red puffy eyes, brown matted backcombed hair and wearing long black plastic 3/4 length coat.
