BBC food critic Jay Rayner was spotted filming in the grounds of St Albans Cathedral this morning.
The presenter was in the city to taste an Alban Bun, a take on the traditional hot cross bun, for The One Show.
The hot cross bun is said to originate in St Albans, where 14th Century monk Thomas Rocliffe developed the recipe.
From 1381 he delivered the buns to poor people living in the city on Good Friday.
The Very Reverend Jeffrey John, dean of the Cathedral, said: “Recently we’ve lost touch with the significance of the bun, and its link to Holy Week and the Cross.
“These days it’s possible to buy Hot Cross Buns throughout the year.
“Whilst any reminder of the importance of Easter is welcomed, we’ve come to the conclusion that the Alban Bun might be a way of reaffirming the significance of the bun as a symbol of Christ’s death and resurrection.”
Alban Buns will be on sale in the cathedral from Monday, March 25 and the clip filmed today will be aired on Friday, March 29.
