BBC TV presenter Paul Hollywood films in St Albans
A mill in St Albans starred on BBC 2 last night (Monday) when Great British Bake Off host Paul Hollywood paid it a visit.
As part of his new show, Paul Hollywood’s Bread, the presenter was shown the process of making flour at Redbournbury Mill in Redbournbury Lane.
Justin James, who has been the miller at the site for 15 years, explained how wheat grown by farmer Howard Roberts just up the road is ground down.
Mr Hollywood visited the site to highlight the falling trend of famers, millers and bakers working in close proximity of each other to create fresh bread.
After watching the process, he used the fresh flour to bake a rye, oat and ale round.
In the programme he said: "I’ve never used warm flour before.
"It is only half an hour old.
"In this traditional setting I want to make a historical British bread to which I have added a traditional twist."
The three men then visited The Verulam Arms in Lower Dagnall Street where they tasted the bread with a ploughman’s lunch and a pint.
