It has been reported that the WelHat Borough Council are considering a £125k contribution to the fund to bolster the on-going legal challenge against the hated incinerator. This paper has long maintained that the original £20k donation Borough Council was a paltry token gesture but now, at long last, some serious money could be put in the pot. The Council will be debating this next Tuesday. Perhaps they'd do well to remember how little they invest in Hatfield whilst lavishing millions of pounds on new facilities in WGC.
Last autumn, the Conservative led County Council approved the building of an enormous incinerator at New Barnfield in South Hatfield, and they also approved the 'temporary' relocation of Southfield - a special needs school - from the proposed incinerator site at a cost of almost £5million.
However, amid overwhelming opposition, theGovernment Minister Eric Pickles called-in the application which will now be independently assessed.
