A fire investigation has been launched after a huge blaze tore through the outbuilding of a house in Bricket Wood.

Firefighters from St Albans and Garston were called to Lye Lane just after midnight last night.

The outbuilding had been used to store plants as well as large pieces of machinery including sit-on lawnmowers and go-karts.

The crews were called to the scene by neighbours, but by the time they reached the property the fire was already burning strongly.

It is believed that the residents are currently away.

Firefighters remained at the scene until about 3am and an investigation has been launched.

Officers will return to the house this morning to try and establish how the blaze started.
